Though many have said this before I have, and as Gary Taubes points out so succinctly in his new book Why We Get Fat: And What to Do About It (Affiliate link, meaning, if you click on it and buy Gary's book I make a shekel or two), counting calories is an exercise in futility.
The legendary Jack LaLanne died over the weekend at age 96. He was unmatched in his positive, upbeat and motivational persona. Much of what he had to say about fitness and health was spot on.
Anthony Colpo, the vitriolic Australian personal trainer and author of a pretty decent book The Great Cholesterol Con is at it once again. He read a Slow Burn bashing review written by two young men who wrote a weight loss book called S.P.E.E.D: The Only Weight Loss Book Worth Reading and blogged on it with his usual flair for colorful language, metaphors, exaggerations and lies. Of course, the blog isn't at all informative - it's just rude and derisive. He's so gleeful that some other people joined his hate Fred Hahn and/or Slow Burn Club he rushed to post all about it.

After attempting to relay the benefits of low to no carb eating to type II diabetics (T2D) on the American Diabetes Association (ADA) web forum to no avail, I decided instead to do some searching around the web. I wanted to see if any web-based organization stated that a high carbohydrate diet is a cause/risk factor of/for T2D.
I had a nice paleo lunch with John Durant of Hunter-Gatherer fame yesterday. We discussed high intensity strength training, paleolithic living and many other ideas on how to get all humans to live and eat like, well, humans.
A recent study indicates that a paleolithic diets trumps a Mediterranean diet for improvements in satiety. What this means, in essence, is that the total nutrient availability to the cells and resultant hormonal response is superior eating like a caveman as opposed to eating like a modern man - or woman.
